Celebrating cycling this May

We have been at a couple of events this May promoting sustainable travel and particularly cycling.

Colchester Institute’s Bee Green day (8 May) was a success despite the fact it poured with rain all day! Over 60 staff and students pedaled themselves a smoothie!

Luckily the sun shone brightly for the Well Being event in Castle Park on the 17 May.  Led by CTC and supported by Cycle Colchester, Sustrans, Breeze and Re-Cycle we took up almost half the event with a huge try a bike area, information stand, Dr Bike and Re-cycle bike sales.

117 children  made themselves a Cycling, Walking or Scootering Champion id badge, and over 100 people took part in trying a bike. Lots of kids whizzed around on a range of bikes from balance bikes to our fun Circus Bike! We spoke to lots of adults about family cycling and they enjoyed trying out the trailers and child seats with their kids! Dr Bike aka Neil Allen, was busy all day doing free bike MOT’s and Recycle made £700 to help send more bikes to Africa through their bike sales. All in all it was a fun and successful day!
